 PAINTING WORK 


1.    OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this method statement is to carry out the Painting Works by meeting the technical specification and complying with Standards.

2.    SCOPE:

The scope of this method statement includes at all areas at CTSIL, CTSIL site while executing it in accordance with Technical specifications.

4.    TOOLS AND TACKLES

·         Paint brushes

·         Trowels

·         Rollers

·         Masking tape

·         Sprit levels

·         Halogen lamps

·          “Good for construction” drawings

·         Specification from Architects.

5.    METHODOLOGY

·         The approved and duly certified shade and type of paint shall be made available at site in sufficient quantity.

·         Ensure that the wall and ceiling surfaces are completely dry prior to the application of paint.

·         Ensure that all furniture and the flooring is protected before starting the painting works.

·         Proper scaffolding arrangement with safety measures to be taken.

·         All loose particles, dirt and dust must be thoroughly scrubbed from the surface using sandpaper.

·         All painting accessories like brush, roller, mixing tray etc to be thoroughly cleaned and washed outside the working premises before starting the works.

·         Application of 2 putty coats, ensure the first coat is thoroughly dried before applying the final coat.

·         Putty to be applied uniformly to cover all undulations.

·         Proper sanding of surfaces to render a smooth surface prior to the application of paints. Ensure that the dust on the surface is thoroughly wiped off after sanding the puttied surface.

 

a)    OBSERVATION

·         First coat paint to be applied with brush and finished with roller

·         Ensure a drying period of 4 to 6 hours before application of the final coat of paint.

·         All external walls and semi-exposed areas such as balconies and utility walls, to be given external-grade paint

 

6.    INSPECTION METHODOLOGY 

·         The colour tone throughout the checked surface should be uniform.

·          The concentration in the mixture must be uniform [for paints mixed manually on site].

·          No overlapping to be seen – overlapping could appear due to interruptions in painting an entire surface.

·          Use halogen lamps and check for;

§  Undulations on the surface

§  Structure of the painted surface

§  Shadow appearing on the painted surface

§  Any smudges (due to touch ups in punning)

§  Changes in the concentration of the paint

§  Spillages, overlapping and lack of masking

7.    RESPONSIBILITIES.

·         Construction Manager: He shall be responsible for overall management of construction activities.

·         Site Engineer: He shall be responsible for Executing in safe work method as per drawings and guide the supervisors and work men.

·          Site Supervisor: He shall be responsible managing all plant and machineries and labour and safety of the workers

·         QA/QC In charge: He shall be responsible for ensuring the quality of work as per the specifications and standards.

·         HSE Manager/Engineer: He shall be responsible for assisting to engineer/supervisor to ensure the safety of workers during the progress of work. Safety inductions of each staff and workers shall be done and daily PPE check to be done and tool box talk shall be carried out before the start of work. General safety awareness as well as particular safety precautions and guidelines for activity to be carried out in that particular day shall be discussed. 

·         Stores officer: He shall be responsible for storing of all materials. Also responsible for maintaining the record of incoming and outgoing and up to date stock details of materials.
