PLASTER: WORK METHODOLOGY FOR PLASTERING

PLASTER : WORK METHODOLOGY FOR PLASTERING

PLASTER WORK

1.    OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this method statement is to carry out the Plastering Works by meeting the technical specification and complying with Standards.

6.    METHODOLOGY

a)     Before Plastering:

·         Surfaces to be plastered must be clean and free from dust, loose material, oil, grease, droppings, sticking of foreign matter, traces of algae etc.

·         The wall/ ceiling / beams etc. should be moist before plastering.

·         Any unavoidable projections in masonry and concrete surfaces should be chiselled back. Care should be taken that surrounding surfaces are not damaged and reinforcement is not exposed.

·         Electrical or any other services should be completed before starting of plaster.

b)    Mixing of Plaster mortar:

·         The materials or mortar should be first dry mixed by measuring with boxes to have the required proposition (as required), and then water added slowly and gradually and mixed thoroughly. There should be minimum loss of water through the mixing platform.

·         The mixing ratio shall be as per the manufacturer datasheet.

c)    Application of plaster:

·         G.I. mesh / Fibre mesh rolls over the block work and concrete junctions on both vertically and horizontally (as required) with steel nails/ wooden plug and apply rich cement mortar (1:3) over the mesh. (Use of GI Mesh & Fibre Mesh shall be decided based on the type of plaster being done.

·         Bull mark / peg levels should be fixed on the wall by using plum bob.

·         The thickness of plaster to be as specified.

·         The minimum interval in between two coast shall be 24 hours.

·         Plastering mesh should be fixed rigidly before plastering on the junction between concrete and masonry surface. This strip has to be plastered and cured before the entire wall is plastered.

·         The GI expanded wire mesh / Fibre mesh shall be fixed over the junction with nails. The nails shall be driven into the RCC beams / columns after drilling a hole and over block masonry directly. The nails shall be staggered and folded to secure the mesh reinforcement.

·         G.I meshes / Fibre mesh of 200 mm are fixed with sufficient overlap.

·         First mortar should be dashed and pressed over the surface and then brought to a true smooth and uniform surface by means of float and trowel.

·         Plaster should be started from top and worked down towards floor.

·         Wall plaster to be cut above the floor level keeping the skirting.

7.      INSPECTION METHODOLOGY

·         Ensure meshes are properly stretched and nailed, with sufficient overlap.

·         Plastering on these surfaces to be done precisely with no protruding surfaces/ edges.

·         Ensure right width of plastering mesh has been used depending on the height of the adjustor course.

·         The work should be checked for uniform surface frequently with a straight edge and plumb bob.

·         At the end of the day the plaster should be left cut clean to line, closed not nearer than 15cm to any corner.

·         When plastering is restarted next day, the edge of the old work should be scrapped cleaned and wetted cement slurry.

·         Curing should be started as soon as the plaster has hardened sufficiently so that it may not be damaged when watered.

·         The plaster premix compounds contain additives as such are self-curing for first 24 hours, additional curing is to be done with water.

·         The plaster should be kept wet for period of 7 days.

·         Any defective plaster should be cut in rectangular shape and replaced.

·         Inspection to be done after a week to ensure no cracks at joints / plaster.

8.    RESPONSIBILITIES.

·         Construction Manager: He shall be responsible for overall management of construction activities.

·         Site Engineer: He shall be responsible for Executing in safe work method as per drawings and guide the supervisors and work men.

·          Site Supervisor: He shall be responsible managing all plant and machineries and labour and safety of the workers

·         QA/QC In charge: He shall be responsible for ensuring the quality of work as per the specifications and standards.

·         HSE Manager/Engineer: He shall be responsible for assisting to engineer/supervisor to ensure the safety of workers during the progress of work. Safety inductions of each staff and workers shall be done and daily PPE check to be done and tool box talk shall be carried out before the start of work. General safety awareness as well as particular safety precautions and guidelines for activity to be carried out in that particular day shall be discussed.

·         Stores officer: He shall be responsible for storing of all materials. Also responsible for maintaining the record of incoming and outgoing and up to date stock details of materials.
